Roland C. Smith
President and Chief Executive Officer

Roland Smith, 55, is an experienced senior executive having served as President and Chief Executive Officer of both public and private companies for more than 13 years and on numerous boards. He was named President and Chief Executive Officer of Wendy's/Arby's Group, Inc. and Chief Executive Officer of Wendy's International, Inc. in September 2008. In previous roles, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Triarc Companies, Inc., Chief Executive Officer of Arby's Restaurant Group, Inc., President and Chief Executive Officer of American Golf Corporation and National Golf Properties, President and Chief Executive Officer of AMF Bowling Worldwide, Inc. and President and Chief Executive Officer of Arby's Inc., d/b/a Triarc Restaurant Group.


In April, 2006, Smith returned to the Arby's brand following a five year span with the brand from 1994 through 1999. He originally joined Arby's in 1994 and was promoted to President and CEO in February 1997, serving in that capacity until 1999. During his first tenure with Arby's, Smith affected a successful restructuring and rejuvenation of the brand. Under his leadership, Arby's same-store sales growth was among the leaders of the industry and the brand nearly tripled its operating profit from 1996 to year-end 1998.


At American Golf (February 2003 – November 2005), he led the successful operational turn-around and financial restructuring of the world's largest owner and operator of golf courses. Under Smith's leadership, the Company grew revenue and profits and provided an IRR of over 35% to its investors.


At AMF (April 1999 – January 2003), Smith is credited with leading a successful financial restructuring and turn-around of the world's largest owner and operator of bowling centers. Smith successfully guided AMF into and out of Chapter 11 in record time, resulting in the reduction of total debt by two-thirds. This debt reduction, combined with positive comparable center revenue growth, positioned AMF for future profitability.


Smith has also held senior management positions at KFC International, Pepsi Cola International, Schering-Plough and Procter & Gamble.


A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, Smith served in the U.S. Army for seven years in the Transportation and Aviation Corps as platoon leader, executive officer, deputy director of Army programs, aide-de-camp, aviation maintenance officer and pilot.


Smith previously sat on the Board of Directors for Audio Visual Services Corporation, a privately-held company, the Board of Representatives for American Golf Corporation and National Golf Properties and was Chairman of the Board of Directors of AMF. Smith currently sits on the Board of Directors for Wendy's/Arby's Group, Inc. and serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Carmike Cinemas, Inc. (NASDAQ: CKEK), where he is also Chairman of the Compensation and Nominating Committee. He is a Trustee of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, a National Trustee of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America and a member of the World Presidents' Organization International.
